MEMPHIS AGAINST SEXUAL HARASSMENT & ASSAULT

OUR MISSION We work to take down rape culture and sexual violence within the Memphis community. Through workshops and community outreach, we plan to educate others on the significance of sexual violence not being addressed properly and effectively. We also desire to provide the tools necessary for youth around the city to implement the MASHA curriculum in their own schools and communities.

pAST WORK

Throughout the years, there have been many people who have contributed to MASHA’s work. Thanks to their hard work and dedication MASHA has been able to put on three Survivor Power Coffee Hours. These were open mic spaces where people in the community could come and share their stories in a safe and supporting environment. We have also developed curriculum to deepen others’ understanding of sexual harassment and assault and how we can combat this. While we have been dedicated to creating this cultural change within our community, we also know that policies create change as well. Throughout several years, MASHA worked to establish a policy within Shelby County Schools regarding sexual harassment and assault and provide support to survivors. In 2020, Shelby County Schools adopted the revised Harassment, Sexual Harassment, Discrimination, Intimidation, Bullying or Cyberbullying policy based off of MASHA’s recommendations.

Current work

Our work does not stop there! Now that Shelby County Schools has adopted the revised Harassment, Sexual Harassment, Discrimination, Intimidation, Bullying or Cyberbullying policy, we are working to have consent included in Shelby County Schools’ sexual education curriculum and we are working to continuously enhance the policy.
